Pharmacy Technician- Liaison

Position Summary:

The Pharmacy Liaison will work under the direction of a clinical pharmacist to ensure timely access to medications through efficient management of medication refill requests and prior authorizations. The Pharmacy Liaison will: field calls from individuals and pharmacies regarding medication refills and prior authorizations; communicate with prescribers, pharmacies, support staff and insurers as needed to manage refill and prior authorization requests; assist in the preparation, submission, documentation and appeal of prior authorization requests; and document communications in the electronic medical record.

Job Duties Include:
  • Act as a liaison between prescribers, clinical pharmacists, pharmacies, and insurers
  • Respond to medication refill and prior authorization requests in various formats (phone, fax, electronic)
  • Initiate and coordinate prior authorization requests, including:
  • Understanding and applying insurer’s prior authorization guidelines
  • Recommending covered alternatives for medications to the prescribing provider, as appropriate
  • Collecting and documenting non-judgmental information required for prior authorization request
  • Ensuring accuracy and completeness of information requested, including supporting documentation
  • Investigating denied claims to resolve issues by providing additional clinical information
  • Communicating the status of the prior authorization to the patient and care team
  • Documenting prior authorization approval/denial in the electronic medical record
  • Maintain confidentiality and patient privacy in accordance with HIPPA regulations and other state and federal guidelines

Requirements

Qualifications:
  • A candidate for this position must:
  • Have 2+ years of pharmacy technician experience
  • Work well both independently and within a team
  • Manage multiple priorities while utilizing time management skills to prioritize the most urgent requests
  • Be resourceful and able to efficiently solve problems 
  • Have strong attention to detail, as well as organizational and leadership skills
  • Communicate effectively in both oral and written mediums
  • Maintain professionalism in stressful situations
  • Be proficient with the use of technology, including electronic medical records
Preferred qualifications:
Multi-lingual

Experience with Epic and CoverMyMeds

Experience working in a community pharmacy setting

Required Credentials

Active and unrestricted RPhT MA Pharmacy Technician License 

Preferred Credentials

Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification

Required Education
High School Diploma or GED
